Kyle Stevenson, DVM

“Don’t forget that somewhere between hello and goodbye there was love, so much love.” - Unknown

Kyle Stevenson has been an associate veterinarian at The Animal Doctors since she graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College (Prince Edward Island, Canada) in 2007. Having grown up in the small village of Dexter, Kyle wanted to return to her roots and her family after finishing her DVM degree. When asked why she chose The Animal Doctors, Kyle said that Dr. Blair Harff represented everything that she envisioned a great veterinarian to be - a calm, kind person to both humans and animals alike, a down-to-earth individual who was easy to approach, a thoughtful employer who took care of his team members, and a community-oriented practitioner whom everyone knew - and she wanted to be a part of his practice and to have the chance to be mentored by him.  Since 2007, Kyle has watched The Animal Doctors shift, change shape, and grow as new team members came on board and prior team members left. One thing has remained the same, however - Blair’s vision of a clinic whose team members treat everyone and their pets as part of the family.

When Kyle lost her soul dog and best friend - Potter - in 2015, her focus within veterinary medicine began to shift in order to adapt to her new “normal.”  Pet cancer awareness moved to the forefront, and Kyle embarked on a journey with Paws4Potter to share as much information about pet cancer as possible to pet parents near and far.  While she enjoys all facets of general practice, Kyle’s main interests include oncology, palliative care, and end-of-life care and how we as a profession can make these difficult portions of pets’ journeys as good and comfortable as possible.  She is interested in maintaining the strength of the human-animal bond throughout even the toughest parts of a pet’s life.  Since 2019, she has been leading a monthly pet loss support group (Northern New York Pet Loss Support), which has continued online since the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

Kyle also has a keen interest in preserving and strengthening veterinary team culture and has taken additional continuing education courses and workshops to assist in our team’s development. She is also currently in charge of our social media platforms and enjoys providing educational content for our clients.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Kyle enjoys walking, running, Zumba fitness, scrapbooking, reading, and creative writing. A couple of fun facts about Kyle are that she eats peanut butter sandwiches everyday at work and that she is currently the only left-handed member of The Animal Doctors team.

If you could leave one piece of information for every pet parent, what would it be?

Try to live each and every day “in the moment” with your best buddy. Cherish the small moments with them as equally as the big moments, for those moments all add up into a big, beautiful life shared between you.
