Amanda Schnurer, DVM

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.” - Maya Angelou

Amanda Schnurer is the most recent addition to The Animal Doctors team, but she is no stranger to our family, as she and her family have been clients of ours for over half a decade.  Originally from Indiana and then Kentucky, Amanda obtained a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Midway College in Kentucky before graduating with her DVM degree from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama in 2010.  Her family settled down in northern NY after her husband’s job brought them here.

Amanda chose this profession because she loves to help foster the human-animal bond. She fondly remembers a veterinarian helping her with her own beloved horse when she was only thirteen years old, and this helped to solidify her passion for veterinary medicine. When asked why she chose The Animal Doctors, Amanda said that she loves the kindness and compassion of the entire team and wanted to be a part of it.

A true lover of animals, Amanda shares her time with 3 horses, 2 dogs, 2 cats, a guinea pig, a crested gecko, a corn snake, a variety of fish, and - most recently - chickens! As far as her furry, 4-footed household pets go, Gryffin is an opinionated, yet adorable Corgi (who incidentally has a “Mischief Managed” collar and leash), but his mischievous nature is not to be outdone by Skippy and Milo, the cats!

In her spare time, Amanda loves to be outside with her family, grow many plants, read fantasy books, bake sweet treats, and ride and train horses. She especially loves dressage, tricks, and liberty work. A fun fact about Amanda is that she has trained her horse to do tricks. He will shake, spin, pick things up, open and close mailboxes, push and kick a ball around, and much more!

Within veterinary medicine itself, Amanda has a special interest in dermatology, feline medicine, and preventive medicine.

We have enjoyed Amanda as a client for many years, and we are so excited to have her join our team as an associate veterinarian!

If you could leave one piece of information for every pet parent, what would it be?

The cost of prevention is usually less expensive than treating an advanced problem or disease. Early diagnosis and treatment increases the probability of a positive outcome. Don’t wait for the preventives, and don’t hesitate to call with concerns.
